Building relationships

Prashant failed to notice the loose rock as he took his next stride during the trek.

He lost his balance as he placed his second foot on the same rock and slipped. He injured his left toe pretty badly in the process.

It was his first trek.

We were nearly at midpoint when this happened and there was no other way but to walk to the place where cars were parked.

This would be another 4 kms that too on a rocky terrain with a fair share of ascents and descents.

We asked the walk leader to slow down. There were a few more first timers and one among them was Naveen.

Naveen had put in 20 years of service with Army and offered a helping hand.

The three of us got talking. We shared about our college days, our work life, families and much more..

We finally ended the trek well past noon and bid goodbye.

The very next day I had some work near Naveen’s house. I dropped a text and immediately got an invitation for a cup of coffee!

Here I was on a Monday evening, spending some more moments with a person at his house who I had only met a day before.

I have been enquiring about Prashant’s well being everyday. He’s doing fine.

Out of nowhere, I seem to have found two new friends.

How could it happen so fast?

You may have heard that it takes time for any friendship to blossom.

It’s not about the number of hours but about “quality” time.

We spent a few hours together in the wilderness with no mobile coverage – we were there with each other.

Are you looking to cement existing friendships/ developing a few new ones?

It’s about spending quality time!

* I love to emphasise on the power of bonds and relationships in all my corporate training programs.
