Kal Ho Na Ho: Stop Postponing Life

Kal Ho Na Ho: Stop Postponing Life

Kal Ho Na Ho: Stop Postponing Life

Have you ever realised that thousands of people die everyday and we rarely blink an eye?

Life goes on as normal for all of us and we continue to make grandiose 5 – 10 year plans.

One fine day reality hits us when someone close to us departs.

One of my IIM batchmates breathed his last a few days back. He was hale and hearty one day and he was no more the very next day.

All this while we’ve been too busy chasing our goals, in pursuit of being successful without realising the fragility of life.

What should we do?
Do we slow down and start taking things more easily?

No.

I am actually asking you to stop being complacent and create a sense of urgency.

I have heard from numerous people that the biggest regret on deathbed is about unfulfilled desires, about things that you could have done but you did not.

Let me share a personal example.

I visited Badrinath in 2004 and had a desire to visit Kedarnath too.

Twenty years have passed. There were a few occasions when I could have made it but kept postponing for no specific reason.

A message was floated on my Gurgaon Trekking WhatsApp group in early July – a few people were planning to visit Kedarnath this Sep and wanted to get the bookings done early to avoid the last minute rush.

I ignored the message.

I had many reasons to not make it – will get pretty cold that time, my new business venture in Mohali, etc etc.

I heard the news of my friend’s demise last week and was pretty upset over the next 1 – 2 days.

As I got back to my normal routine, the first thing I did was to register for the trip.

Have you too been postponing certain things unnecessarily?
Sit back, pause and reflect for a minute.

See if “that” thing can be done this month, next month, or the next quarter.

Kal ho na ho..
