An anniversary like none other.. (this post is not about my wedding anniversary!)

The group completed 11 years of its existence and it called for a grand celebration.

I am talking about our trekking group – Gurgaon Walkers (the group organises a trek free of cost every Sunday morning to one of the trails in the Aravalis)

We congregated at one of the well known farmhouses in Gurgaon last weekend. 

The early evening time was about zip-line, water slides and golgappa with pakodas. 

The 8 pm slot was fixed for the felicitation of a group of 5 trekkers who had made it to EBC last month (Everest Base Camp).

EBC is a relatively tough trek with even seasoned trekkers having to undergo some conditioning and trek before they embark on this once in a lifetime experience.

The ceremony started and the next few minutes were simply extraordinary!

A traditional Aarti was performed for the group. They were then showered with flower petals with people standing on both sides as they walked towards the stage.

They were loudly cheered as they approached the dias.

यारों, जो खुद पे हो यकीन

तो ज़िन्दगी हसीं, तुझे कल बुलाएगा

है जूनून..

All of them were handed over a small token of love and appreciation and then each one of them spoke about their experience of having completed the EBC trek.

This was followed by music and songs as everyone joined in the celebration.

Post the celebration, we treated ourselves to a lavish buffet.

I went over to one of the EBC trekkers and asked him about his day’s experience.

He’d trekked to the EBC to achieve a personal goal but he was overjoyed by the affection which he received from the group.

He said he could complete EBC once again for this love and recognition..

Wow!!

Being recognised is one of the biggest rewards for a task well done. 

And many times we overlook this simple aspect, especially with our professional colleagues and immediate family.
