The success mantra

Amit hung up the phone after having congratulated me for becoming a “Linkedin Top Motivational Speaking Voice”

We have a mutual respect and admiration for each other.

Amit is an inspiration for anyone who wants to make it big in the corporate world.

He’s made it to the top through sheer hard work (and without playing golf!).

We got talking about our families. There’s a lot of common ground for people in mid 40s – in fact my son and his son are right now in early years of their college.

I happened to ask him on what could be one of the biggest reasons for his success. He narrated a short story.

This was a couple of years back and a few people had flown in from the parent company’s overseas office for a conference.

He was at The Oberoi Gurgaon to meet them. After he was done, he had to drive to his office.

The car failed to start.

He called up his wife and stated the issue. His wife simply asked him to approach the concierge desk and take a taxi to office (these were the pre Ola/ Uber days).

He went to his office and got busy in his work. He got a message from his wife late afternoon stating that the car had been rectified and was now parked in his office parking!

Behind every successful man, there’s a woman!

“Vikas, the English idiom holds true for me”, said Amit.

He told his wife does take a lot of pressure off him by being there even when he’s not expecting her to contribute (like this car incidence).

Net net, success is never an individual performance.

It takes a team!

* As a productivity coach, I love to emphasise on the power of teamwork.
