Serving Gratitude in a Glass
Serving Gratitude in a Glass
I stood in the sun holding a tray which had glasses filled with kachi lassi (कच्ची लस्सी )
It was 21st June and the Gurgaon Walkers group led by Manmohan decided to put up a chabeel (छबील) on a busy internal sector road.
There were quite a few volunteers in the morning who gathered to prepare the first lot of kachi lassi – rose syrup mixed with water, milk and ice!
It was sweltering hot at 10.30 am (and bound to get hotter as the clock moved further) when we started serving the drinks to the passers by.
It was a busy road with autos, bikes, delivery boys on their e-scooters, cars, tractors and so on – completely action packed with hardly a dull moment.
I met all kinds of people – some in a hurry who left soon after gulping the lassi, some really thirsty who asked for a second serving and a few relaxed souls who even chatted for a few seconds!
One delivery boy got really emotional – देख कर बहुत अच्छा लगा की आप सब साहिब लोग सड़क पर खड़े होकर सेवा कर रहे हैं , as he folded his hands and said shukriya.
It was well past 2 pm when we exhausted our stock, after having served nearly 4,000 glasses of refreshing kachi lassi.
It was the first time in my life that I had performed this kind of a seva.
It was a humbling experience – we barely step out in this heat in our normal routine while there are many who have no choice but to work in the same weather day in and day out.
Deep within I thanked God for all the privileges which have been bestowed in my life.
I truly felt grateful..
Have you performed seva at any point of time in your life?
If yes, would love to hear from you.
If no, plan something with a few like minded friends – you too will cherish this experience!
Imagine the possibilities
